Ždiar  is an ethnographicallyimportant, typical village which consists of numerous settlementsbellow the Belianske Tatry. It was founded in the 17th century, whenthe "Gorals" (highlanders) settled here. The village is adorned withoriginal wooden houses with closed yards and typical coloredornamentation. The ethnographic museumŽdiarsky dom (House of Ždiar), built in the traditional style of locallog cabins, has an interior illustrative of what local life was like. Belianske Tatry is the smallest mountain rangewithin the Tatra system, about 14 km long. From the High Tatras it isdivided by Kopské sedlo. Extraordinary richmountain flora and a great number of karst formations abound here. Inthe vicinity of the village Tatranská Kotlina lies themajestic Belianska Cave.
